High Concept Statement
An app to create, edit, organize, and exchange digital business cards with the swipe of a phone
Physical business cards are annoying to carry, store, and somewhat costly to print. They’re also very difficult to organize. If I want to search for someone from a particular company, I have to go through all the business cards I’ve gathered over the years until I find them, if it is that I haven’t lost their card. Anyone who goes to job fairs or any other type of networking event would highly benefit from our digital business card.
Right now LinkedIn is our primary competitor. Then there’s other companies like Haystack that have attempted to replace digital business cards with no success. The problem with LinkedIn and the other digital business card apps currently available is that with these mechanisms, exchanging your digital card when you meet someone in real life is not as quick and easy as exchanging physical business cards (thus why they still exist). The only way to exchange the digital card with haystack is to text or email (which kind of defeats the purpose).
Using NFC or BLE technology, we can exchange digital b-cards as easily as a physical business cards by tapping one phone to another.
Previous attempts at this failed because it took too long to exchange b-cards via BlueTooth or Internet.
Now we can store all the data in the cloud and, through NFC, just exchange the id number of the card, which would allow for a 1-second, 1 tap transaction. Once the id reaches the other phone, it would immediately download the data from the cloud that corresponds to it, i.e the business card.
We have a freemium model where users get to download the app for free, and get a standard business card design for free, but if they want to be able to change their design, or purchase designs made by experts, they would have to pay. We haven’t come up with a price yet, but it would depend on the demand for that particular b-card design and so on.
