High Concept Statement
An app that lets students view and post social media stories within specific communities. User could view stories in order of popularity, specific community (like NYU 2020), or based on an interest.
Status Quo
Currently, people use stories to see what their friends are doing. However, it is a poor method for viewing content, and around 90% of them are not entertaining to the viewer. Comet would solve this by allowing the viewer to sort stories by most popular, or within a specific group such as “NYU 2020”, among other ways.
Competition
Our competition would be the current social media giants, Instagram and Snapchat. They do not emphasize social discovery, community and interest based stories, or different ways to view stories, but they are the only current solutions for people who want to post and view stories.
Solution
Comet would make stories much more efficient and exciting to view and post. Viewers no longer have to sift through boring dog-selfies; they now only see the exciting stuff, based on popularity or relevance. People who post stories are now rewarded for the quality of their content, and can potentially “celebratize” themselves within their community. They can also target specific audiences if they feel certain types of people would want to see their posts more than others.
Revenue Model
We would make money the same way the current giants make money through their stories: engaging and highly targeted content viewable in the stories section of the app.
