High Concept Statement
Impact is a registry for disaster relief. Survivors initiate requests for supplies while donors complete the transactions. Merchants deliver directly to survivors’ locations.
Donors want to help as effectively as possible, but how to do so is often unclear. Disaster support stations have limited accessibility and storage. Unneeded supplies are donated in excess, and charities urgently request money instead of supplies, delaying critical aide. Impact clarifies survivors’ needs for donors to fulfill.
Machine learning teams have been partnering with cell phone carriers to determine supply needs through textual analysis of SMS messages. This has not been successful. Rather than interpret and predict, we will fulfill direct requests.
Corporate matching for charitable donations is an attractive option: it’s tax-deductible and inflates the contribution. With Impact, donors can offer cash donations to their charity of choice following the purchase.
Requested items will be aggregated to visualize donation priority, and ranked to ensure maximum donation value. The transparency provided by Impact will ensure that donors will give what survivors need most. Direct shipping of supplies will allow first responders to focus on rescue, medical support, and infrastructure repair.
Much like the Honey app for web couponing, our revenue would come from transactional and advertising deals with merchants. User retention following the initial rush to donate would come from discount notifications for purchases made with Impact as a thank you for donors and continued support for survivors.
