High Concept Statement:

eBay for college textbooks

Need or Demand:

I believe there are people who have a need for Primer, because there are many college students who need a cheap option to buy/sell textbooks. This consumer base is evident through the many buy/sell textbook groups for every college on Facebook.

Product / Service / Solution:

I believe these needs can be fulfilled by creating an iOS application. The application will consist of a marketplace for college students to connect with other students from their college to buy and sell textbooks.

Value Proposition:

The most important value from this solution is the convenience of having a native application specific to this problem. Also, it allows students to directly connect with other students from their college. The various other ways to buy/sell textbooks either do not connect students who might be taking the same courses from the same college, or is not an organized solution to this problem.

The primary competition would be existing marketplaces such as eBay. However Primer’s advantage over eBay is that it connects students to other students in their university, as well as students who have taken the classes that they are looking for the textbooks for. Another competitor is the buy/sell groups on Facebook. Primer’s advantage over Facebook’s buy/sell groups, is that it is very disorganized and not an exclusive native solution to this issue. There is not search option, to look for a specific textbook. Also, the process of actually acquiring the book can be difficult.

Revenue Model:

The revenue model of Primer includes a 2% fee on every purchase through the app. The seller will be charged a 2% fee on the total purchase amount after the textbook is sold.
