High Concept Statement
Chatroulette for NYU students; but meaningful, appropriate, and hilarious creating genuine connections
Status Quo
NYU has an undergraduate population of over 26,000 student, however the average student will interact with about 1-2% of their peers during college. Students are failing to take advantage of NYU’s best resource – other students. We want to help facilitate these relationships for professional, social, and all purposes.
Competition
Apps such as Nextdoor, Peanut, Skout, and Nearify me are all focused on connecting people but they do not target only college environments. Because they allow anyone to join the app, they are often filled with predators and creeps. There are apps such as Friendsy, (for college students only) which allow students to choose categorize their peers into one of three hookup, friends, or date.
Solution
All of these aforementioned apps implement a swiping system similar to Tinder. Jiive will allow students to connect instantly rather than having to wait for a response. At the end of a conversation student will be able to award points which can be cashed out for prizes.
Revenue Model
Our revenue model will be based on targeted advertising. Users will be building profiles on the app and having conversations on the app. We will leverage this information to best understand the needs of the users. This will allow advertisers to promote their products directly to interested consumers. Additionally our user base will be all university students so all advertisers that want to appeal to that demographic will have the perfect ecosystem to advertise on. Additionally companies will pay to advertise on our platform and pay additional money to learn what users are saying about their product. Gatorade can advertise their new drink as a topic on our platform and then pay again (if they want) to get the data about what students think about this new product.
