Concept Name

Preppal

High Concept Statement

Uber for prepping for standardized tests. If you come across a problem, you get connected with someone who can answer your question.

Status Quo

Prep courses for standardized tests such as ACT/SAT and GRE are expensive any not available all over the world. If you prepare on your own and suddenly come across a question you don’t understand there’s usually nobody to help you. This app solves this problem – cheaply.

Competition

There are many apps which provide flashcards etc but none of them are personalized. Online tutors (in the currently existing form) are expensive. So this app provides personalized help: you can either talk to your peer who’s also preparing and also needs help, a verified high scoring test taker or a tutor. There’s a Chinese app called POP ON which is great for people willing to learn English. We want something like this for tests.

Solution

Preppal is going to be more effective, cheaper and more helpful than any other currently existing options. They are going to be able to ask questions anywhere and anytime by talking (via voice call) to other peers, verified high-scoring students as well as professional tutors.

Revenue Model

SHORT TERM BUSINESS MODEL We need to expand our user base, so: There are 4 ways of using the app (you can use any mix of the features):  Free features: talking to peers short-term, talking to peers-long term, asking tutors one question per day 5 times a week. Paid for features: verifies high scoring test takers as well as professional tutors (from prepping organizations all over the world, including India) set their rates and students can choose which tutor they want to talk to.    LONG-TERM BUSINESS MODEL There are 4 ways of using the app (you can use any mix of the features): Free features: talking to peers short-term, talking to peers-long term, asking tutors one question per day 5 times a week. Paid for features: weekly or monthly subscription to ask tutors unlimited question any time. The app is a great platform for study book and other study material companies to advertise: We hope to be able to subsidize tutor payments thanks to advertisers.
